瀬川隆さんの教区の歴史年表

1853(嘉永06)年7月、浦賀湾内の米国C.ペリー提督が率いる東洋艦隊の旗艦ミシシッピー号上で、艦隊チャプレンのジョーンズ司祭(艦隊チャプレン、聖公会)が米国聖公会祈祷書を用いて日曜礼拝(7月9日)。翌1854(安政元)年1月からのペリーが第2回来航で、水兵R.ウィリアムズの埋葬式を幕府の許可を得て、元町増徳院境内でジョーンズ司祭が祈祷書に基づいて行なう(3月9日)
1856(安政03)年8月、初代米国公使T.ハリス(聖公会信徒)が下田に来任。来日中、日曜毎に祈祷書を用い、ひとり祈りをささげる
1863(文久03)年10月、横浜居留地101〜105番地(現在の山下町101〜105番地)にクライスト・チャーチ礼拝堂を設立。この後、1901(明治34)に現在地(山手聖公会と同じ)に移り、教会堂は1923(大正12)年関東大震災で破壊後1931(昭和6)年に、1945(昭和20)年第2次大戦中の連合軍横浜大空襲で(5月29日)破壊後に1947(昭和22)年に再建
1873(明治73)年9月25日、英国聖公会福音伝播協会(SPG)のW.B.ライト司祭(カナダ生まれ)とA.C.ショウ司祭(アイルランド生まれ)が横浜着、宣教開始。この日は横浜教区記念日で、この近くの日曜日に記念礼拝が行なわれる
1885(明治18)年1月、横浜聖安得烈(アンデレ)教会が認可。クライスト・チャーチの日本語会衆で、居留地内を転々と移動した後、1892(明治25)年1月に寿町3丁目、1905(明治38)年には日之出町、1927(昭和2)年に花咲町3丁目で教会堂完成
1887(明治20)年2月、第1回総会(大阪聖三一神学校)で日本聖公会が成立。5月、英国聖公会教会伝道協会(CMS)の築地聖パウロ教会のJ.ウィリアムズ司祭が千葉県安房郡大貫村などへ伝道開始し、のちの安房大貫キリスト教会などに発展
1896(明治29)年4月、第5回総会(大阪)で全国を6地方に区分し、東京南地方に所属、主教はE.ビカステス
1898(明治31)年8月、W.オードレー司祭が東京南地方主教に就任
1901(明治34)年4月、沼津聖ヨハネ教会の設立
1902(明治35)年6月、W.ウェストン司祭が横浜聖アンデレ教会(当時は寿町)司祭に就任、毎年夏に日本アルプス登山を行ない、世界へ紹介
1909(明治42)年2月、C.H.ボーフラワー主教が着任
1911(明治44)年4月、第10回総会(東京)で中部地方部を新設し、南東京地方部から4県を移管
1913(大正元)年9月、千葉復活教会の設立。現在の教会堂は、1985(昭和60)年10月に完成
1922(大正11)年1月、S.ヘーズレット主教が着任
1923(大正12)年12月、主教座聖堂を東京芝・聖アンデレ教会から横浜聖アンデレ教会(当時は日之出町)へ移す
1930(昭和05)年3月、在横浜中華聖公会の教会堂が横浜南京町(いまの中華街)に完成、その後10年くらい他聖公会教会との交流が続く
1936(昭和11)年3月、甲府聖公会が設立。現在の教会堂は1964(昭和39)年5月に完成。1966(昭和41)年、甲府聖オーガスチン教会と改称
1941(昭和16)年9月、須貝止(とどむ)司祭が主教に就任。12月、ヘーズレット主教が拘留される
1943(昭和18)年11月、10教会が日本基督教団へ合同(残り11教会は非合同)
1945(昭和20)年3月、須貝止主教と佐々木鎮次(しんじ)主教(中部地方部)が拘留される
1946(昭和21)年7月、日本基督教団へ参加の聖職者の復帰式。同月、米国聖公会の影響を受けた聖徒アンデレ同胞会(BSA)が、清里に農村伝道を開始。清泉寮を1938(昭和13)年に作った立教大学ポ−ル・F・ラッシュも帰還して、KEEP協会を設立
1947(昭和22)年3月、横浜山手聖公会の設立。12月、教会堂の完成
1948(昭和23)年2月、前川真二郎主教(北海道教区)が当教区の主教に就任。同月、エリザベス・サンダーズ・ホーム開設(沢田美喜女史)
1954(昭和29)年2月、野瀬秀敏司祭が主教に就任
1957(昭和32)年1月、横浜聖アンデレ教会が三沢へ移転。1959(昭和44)年4月19日の早祷聖餐式で、日本聖公会宣教百年記念のため来日中のカンタベリー大主教G.H.フィッシャー博士が説教、歓迎会にも出席
1966(昭和41)年2月、岩井克彦司祭が主教に就任
1973(昭和48)年10月、横浜教区宣教100年記念礼拝と行事
1984(昭和59)年1月、梶原史朗司祭が主教に就任
1989(平成元)年12月、英国レスター教区への公式訪問(主教以下3名)
1995(平成7)年2月、九十九里ホーム身体障害者寮護施設の落成。1997(平成9)年には、第2松丘園(特別養護老人ホーム)の落成

1853July, a Sunday worship in the Episcopalian style using the Book of Common Prayer was dedicated in the Uraga Bay on the flagship Mississippi, by Rev. Jones (Episcopalian), the Chaplain of Commodore Matthew C. Perry's Eastern Fleet (July 9). During Perry's second visit from January, 1854, after getting the Shogunate's approval, the burial ceremonies for Sailor Robert Jones were done at Zotokuin Temple, Moto-machi, using the Book of Common Prayer, by Rev. Jones (March 9).
1856August, Townsend Harris, the first American Consul, came to Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture. During his stay in Japan, he read the Book of Common Prayer and prayed, every Sunday by himself.
1863October, Christ Church was established at 101 - 105 Yokohama Foreign Settlement (101 - 105 Yamashita-cho, at present). It moved to the present site in 1901, with the church buildings reconstructed later twice: in 1931 after the destruction in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, and in 1947 after the destruction in the Great Yokohama Allied Bombing on May 29, 1945.
1873September 25, William Ball Wright (born in Canada) and Alexander Croft Shaw (born in Ireland) of the Society of the Propagation of the Gospel (SPG), England, arrived in Yokohama and began missionary work. This date is remembered as the Foundation Day of the Diocese of Yokohama and its memorial service is held on a Sunday near this date.
1885January, St. Andrew's Church, Yokohama, was granted. It grew out of the Japanese congregation of Christ Church, and, after moving here and there in the Foreign Settlement, established its church buildings in: 3-chome, Kotobuki-cho, in 1892; Hinode-cho, in 1905; and 3-chome, Hanasaki-cho, in 1927.
1887February, the first General Synod was held at Trinity Theological Seminary, Osaka, and Nippon Sei Ko Kai (NSKK, or the Anglican-Episcopal Church of Japan) was established. May, the first missionary work was started in the southern part of Chiba Prefecture by Rev. J. Williams of St. Paul's Church, Tsukiji, Tokyo, with help from the Church Missionary Society (CMS), England, which later resulted in the establishment of Christ Church, Awa-Onuki, and other churches.
1896April, in the fifth General Synod, the division of Japan into five Region Departmentss was approved. Our churches belonged to the Tokyo South Regional Department, with Bishop Edward Bickersteth.
1898August, Rev. William Awdry was appointed as Bishop.
1901April, St. John's Church, Numazu, was established.
1902June, Rev. Walter Weston was appointed rector of St. Andrew's Church, Yokohama, and climbed the Japan Alps every summer, introducing them to the world.
1909February, Bishop Cecil Henry Boutflower arrived.
1911February, during the 10th General Synod, the Chubu Regional Department was established, to which four prefectures were ceded from the South Tokyo Regional Department.
1913September, Resurrection Church, Chiba, was established. The present church building was completed in October, 1985.
1922January, Bishop Samuel Heaslett arrived.
1923December, our Cathedral moved from St. Andrew's Church at Shiba, Tokyo, to St. Andrew's Church at Hinode-cho, Yokohama
1930March, Chinese Anglican Church in Yokohama was established in Chinatown, and continued for the following ten years.
1936March, Kofu Anglican Church was established. The present church building was completed in May, 1964. Changed its name to St. Augustine's Church, Kofu, in 1966.
1941September, Rev. Todomu Sugai was appointed as Bishop. December, Bishop Hayslett was detained.
1943November, ten churches joined the United Church of Christ in Japan (UCCJ), while eleven others did not.
1945March, Bishop Todomu Sugai and Bishop Shinji Sasaki of the Dicoese of Chubu were detained.
1946July, rejoining of the clergy who had joined UCCJ. Also in July, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew (BSA), influenced by the same movement by the Episcopal Church of U.S.A. began missionary work to the agricultural villages in Kiyosato, Yamanashi Prefecture. Paul F. Rusch of Rikkyo University who had in 1938 established the Seisen-Ryo returned later and established KEEP Association.
1947March, Yamate Seikokai Church was established. December, Yamate Seikokai Church building was completed.
1948February, Gt. Rev. Shinjiro Maekawa, Bishop of Hokkaido, was appointed as our Bishop. Also in February, Elizabeth Sander's Home opened (Mrs. Miki Sawada).
1954February, Rev. Hidetoshi Nose was appointed as Bishop.
1957January, St. Andrew's Church moved to Mitsusawa. On April 19, 1959, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Geoffrey H. Fisher, D.D., gave a sermon to the morning prayer service and attended a welcome party, as he was a guest to the Centennial of the NSKK Mission.
1966February, Rev. Katsuhiko Iwai was appointed as Bishop.
1973October, the worship service and other activities commemorating the Centenial of the Mission to Yokohama
1984January, Rev. Shiro Kajiwara was appointed as Bishop.
1989December, the official visit to the Diocese of Leicester, England, by Bishop Kajiwara and two others.
1995December, Kujukuri Home for the Physically Handicapped was completed. It was further enhanced to include the Home for the Aged, in March, 1997.
